I am extremely thankful for such an amazing atmosphere and the organization that Downing Funeral provided for us. That being said, my mother's service was this last week and I would not recommend this funeral home. There were SO MANY things that should have been done differently. I'm sure they would've been happy to accomodate us, however, during such a difficult time, shouldn't they be the ones to ask us all the questions? ie: Her obituary was so poorly written, I am embarrassed to show it to anyone. I would've been happy to have written it myself instead of the very short, very basic facts that they provided. We are Protestant, yet there was a kneeler placed right in front of her casket as well as a Catholic cross on the wall. She had on bright lipstick and fingernail polish; she never wore either. My son-in-law had to run their sound system because none of them knew how. Really? If you use Downing, may I suggest maybe finding a checklist of some sort online? They were here to pick him up within 20 minutes after Hospice called . They gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye before they took him. They called me the next day to set up an appointment at my convenience to come in and do the initial paperwork. Stan was great with us during the process.
